Līga Griķe and Anna-Liisa Eller invite listeners into a sound world shaped by the unique mix of latvian concert kokle and estonian kannel. By bringing these instruments together, Anna-Liisa and Līga explore a rich musical landscape that bridges centuries, styles, and expressive possibilities. The program features music from different historical periods, arranged and adapted for the unique combination of concert kokle and kannel, revealing new colours within familiar and lesser-known works. Alongside these arrangements, the audience will hear a premiere of a piece “The Milkyway” by composer Alise Bērziņa-Rozenbaha written especially for the duo. This concert offers a journey through time – a chance to explore the concert kokle and kannel, and to discover how their combination unfolds a shared Baltic sound world in new and unexpected ways.
Kannel player and folk musician Kertu-Liis Õnnis together with cellist, bassist, and singer Aino Rahel Aimla form a creative duo whose warm sound brings you beautiful older and newer folk songs from land and sea. Their music tells stories of red roses, love, dark waves, heating the sauna, the moon, and much more.
Duo lennaK was formed in 2020, when Paulina Andrejeva and Miia Polding began their studies in chromatic kannel at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School. The kannel is a special and deeply meaningful instrument for them – at once ancient and contemporary. The development of the instrument continues today, and many of its playing techniques and expressive possibilities are still waiting to be discovered. The duo’s repertoire combines classical and contemporary music. They also perform their own compositions, inspired by folk melodies from different countries. Duo lennaK has collaborated with several renowned composers, including René Eespere, Mirjam Tally and Brigitta Davidjants, and has premiered a number of new works.
