Summer night with „Bach“
19th of August at 7PM in Villa Ammende garden

Andres Mustonen, a versatile musician, conductor, leader of the early music ensemble Hortus Musicus and leader of the festival of his own name, has been developing the idea of playing classical music in an improvisational way since 2003. The members of the formed quartet were drummer Tanel Ruben, guitarist Jaak Sooäär and bassist Taavo Remmel. The ensemble, which has achieved unified breathing over the years, has made Vivaldi and Corelli rock, Bach’s swing, and the geographical reach of the sounds has expanded to Middle Eastern music. The aim of the quartet is to search for a common sound field between the sounds of different centuries, which would touch the listener and have a topical effect even today.

The ensemble’s first album “Aria” presented jazz interpretations of classical pearls, but the subsequent oriental-oriented “A Tempo” already contains hotter and more rocky tones. The concert will focus on Johann Sebastian Bach’s immortal Goldberg variations, which the quartet recorded in the spring and which will be released as a record in the autumn, but there will also be other great performances.

“We want to expand the world. The spiritual world of music is not just where we live, but much wider. We want to understand the spirituality of all cultures, and we are happy to be able to touch them. This is our life.” (Andres Mustonen on the cover of the album “A Tempo”).
